Making sterno fuel (AKA napalm)

One day, about 3 years  ago i wanted to create some homemade Sterno fuel, basically a gel that is flammable. i did several Google searches and finally found a recipe for some great stuff.
take 1 cup of Diesel (clear #1 grade), and 1/2 cup of paraffin wax. heat the wax so that it is well melted. continuously stir the diesel as you pour the melted wax it to the diesel. continue to stir for about 20 seconds after all the wax has been added. allow the mixture to cool. it will harden to a jello substance. scoop a dab onto a stick and light it on fire! this stuff is great for starting fires at home or when camping.

Along with mixing random liquids and powders, i also had a passion to disassemble high tech gadgets.

at this time i was about 9yrs and the year was 1981 and phones where big, heavy things with a big round dial on them for dialing in your numbers (no buttons back then). at first, i really wanted to build a robot(which at that time was a sci-fi item)  but i knew, even at that young age, that a phone would probably only make a bomb, or something like that, but i would never know until it took the thing apart! about 2 hours into it, my parents came home to find me at the kitchen table with the families telephone in about 200 pieces and big smile on my face. that smile did not last too long, back then phones were leased out but the Bell Phone company and this one would cost my dad several hundred dollars to replace.

Thinking back, at this time, i was about 8yrs when i got a hold of a chemistry kit. it was at a garage sale and looked to be old, about 1960's. i don't know what  i was mixing together my goal was to make a poison to kill ants. Well, i poured the clear liquid over the ant hill and they all stopped moving. i did it! the war was now over. about 5 minutes later the ants began to wake up from their supposed death and began the march to the front line. at that point i decided that i now had made knock out gas! too cool...

Welcome all you backyard scientists. this is my first time blogging so please bare with me as i learn how all this works. i will begin by starting with my first experiments and move through to my most current explorations.
